BuildIT Construction: explore our how-to video series

BuildITConstruction Hero small

A construction verification software like FARO® BuildIT Construction offers a range of features to help contractors and architects measure accurately, detect variances early and avoid disruptive and costly rework issues.

These features include:

  • Scan to Autodesk® Revit® model analysis
  • Prefabricated component inspection
  • Creating topography
  • Calculating floor cut & fill volume
  • Floor flatness analysis
  • Wall analysis
  • Tank volume analysis
  • Tank deformation analysis

Scan to Autodesk Revit model analysis

In this video, you'll learn how BuildIT Construction can be used to compare scan data to a Revit model.

Specifically, this video demonstrates how to analyze the column and random beam positions from the CAD data. The data is filtered to an area just around the column to create an analysis of how close the scan data is to the design model. Processing time for this particular example was around 5 minutes.

Users can verify accuracy of as-built scan data to design models, as well as ensure adherence to BIM by detecting components or assemblies that were constructed and any incorrect placement or missing features, such as walls, columns, beams, pipes, etc.

Prefabricated component inspection

BuildIT Construction can be used to inspect prefabricated components using a model and scan data.

Users can easily:

  • Register scans (taken with a FARO FocusS Laser Scanner),
  • Crop the data,
  • Import the IFC model,
  • Align the scans to the model,
  • Associate the points to the surfaces from the model,
  • Analyze the surfaces,
  • And create a report

Creating topography

BuildIT Construction can be used to create topographical curves from scan data with automatic .dxf export. Watch to learn more.

Users can create topography from their scan data and a reference surface for both horizontal (floor) and vertical (wall) surfaces. This automatically creates a *.dxf file, which includes the curves on individual layers and text annotations to communicate deviations easily.

Calculating floor cut & fill volume

Watch to learn how BuildIT Construction is used to calculate the cut and fill volume to make a floor level and highlight areas that are high or low.

Users can easily calculate cut and fill volumes accurately and effectively with wall detection, debris and rebar removal.

Floor flatness analysis

In this video, you see how BuildIT Construction can be used to create a heatmap of deviation from design, perform the ASTM FF/FL testing and export a report.

Users can create deviation heatmaps from their point clouds or collected data, with fully customizable color mapping and tolerancing. Users can also inspect floor flatness and levelness to the ASTM E1155 standard and create an accompanying report.

Wall analysis

Watch how BuildIT Construction can be used to analyze a wall's deviation from design based on a reference position.

Users can instantly check walls for plumb and flatness with or without design models. These checks can also be annotated and reported.

Tank volume analysis

Watch how BuildIT Construction users can calculate the fill volume for tanks or vessels from scan data and then automatically create and export a report of the volume per height.

Tank deformation analysis suite

BuildIT Construction can be used to analyze tank deformation. Watch to see how users can use a suite of commands for horizontal, vertical and grid analysis to quickly create detailed tank deformation reports.
