Improving Quality of Manufactured Composites
Composites are manufactured parts or assemblies made of synthetic materials that involve some level of fabric, strands or woven cloth layered on top of one another. By fusing those layers in a kiln, a new hybrid product is produced. Prior to kiln heating, it is essential that each layer is precisely positioned and sequenced with a high degree of accuracy.
FARO’s laser projection solutions eliminate the need for large physical templates and instead project a virtual template directly onto the surface where the layer is to be placed. When dealing with composites, the consequences of a manufacturing error are high — think airplane wings and fuselages — and rework is impossible after the kilning process. FARO’s laser tracking solutions are designed for large-scale measurement (and scan arms for smaller tasks), and complete the manufacturing and assembly process to ensure your finished composite parts are accurate and precise.
