As the Head of the Section of Research into Assistive Equipment for Elderly and Disabled Persons in the Assistive Technology Department at the Research Institute of the Japan National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Hirose, a doctor of engineering, is engaged in R&D to develop wheelchairs that are tailored to the needs of individual elderly and disabled users. His work includes measuring the posture of a person sitting in a wheelchair, devising posture measurement methods, and improving and revising those ISO standards related to posture measurement.
